Look at this list and mark the people you know are safe from elimination.

Kalimat intinya adalah: Look at this list and mark the people.

Untuk menjelaskan 'people' mana yang dimaksud, kalimat ini diberi adjective clause "whom/that you know are safe from elimination" sehingga menjadi: Look at this list and mark the people whom/that you know are safe from elimination.

Relative pronouns/adj. clause connectors (whom/that) yang diikuti subjek klausa ('you' dalam kalimat di atas) bisa dihilangkan (omitted).

Contoh lainnya adalah:

The movie which/that we saw last Sunday was disappointing. 

menjadi

The movie we saw last Sunday was disappointing.

Note: relative pronoun/adj. clause connector yang didahului preposition tidak boleh dihilangkan:

The boy with whom I played tennis yesterday is my neighbor. 

Tentunya kalimat ini juga bisa diungkapkan dengan:

The boy I played tennis with yesterday is my neighbor.

1. Mark the people *who* you know are safe from elimination. = Tandai orang yang Anda tahu aman dari eliminasi. Anda tak kenal mereka, tapi tau mereka aman. (kata "who" bisa dihilangkan)
2. Mark the people you know *who* are safe from elimination.= Tandai kenalan Anda yang aman dari eliminasi. Dalam contoh kalimat kedua, kata "who" tidak bisa dihilangkan, Ada dua adjective clause di sini. Adj. clause connector 'who' (yang diikuti verb) memang tidak boleh dihilangkan karena dia menjalankan fungsi subject dalam klausa itu.

I only support a soccer team I know will win the championship.

I will only buy a camera I know receives good review ratings from users.

Marry someone you know will make you happy.

Choose a governor you know is a good person and a hard worker.

Choose the governor (that) you know is a good person.
